چکیده

The architecture of a software-intensive system is the composition of architectural design decisions. These decisions are an important part of Architectural Knowledge (AK). Failure to document architectural design decisions can lead to AK vaporization and higher maintenance costs. To reduce AK vaporization, we propose to apply the Repertory Grid Technique (RGT) to make tacit knowledge about architecture decisions explicit. An architect can use the RGT to elicit decision alternatives and concerns, and to rank each alternative against concerns. To validate our approach, we conducted a survey with graduate students. In the survey, participants documented decisions using the RGT. We compared these decisions with decisions documented using a basic decision template. Our results suggest that RGT leads to less AK vaporization, compared to conventional ways of documenting decisions.

Many researchers believe that tacitness of knowledge contributes to incomplete knowledge flow. In this article, the authors focus on obtaining the required mechanical and electrical tacit knowledge for architectural conceptual design purpose by observing activities of a design team involved in a green building project. The authors used the case study research methodology to demonstrate how the ...

THE REPERTORY GRID TECHNIQUE Making Tacit Knowledge Explicit: Assessing Creative work and Problem

By describing a not so known method of interview, Repertory Grid Technique, the author shows how to elicit underlying, often tacit criteria's that professional teachers use when they assess creative work. It seems plausible that these criteria’s can be used to enhance the student's development from a novice to an expert. Some of these criteria may have an universal value for the development of ...

Knowledge Acquisition via Tracked Repertory Grids

One of the more valuable and flexible forms of knowledge acquisition is based upon the use of repertory grids. A useful extension of repertory grids can be created by providing a method of semantically linking associated constructs and repertory grids. This network of grids is a semantic network with nodes consisting of individual repertory grids and links acting as ‘tracks.’ A track is a gener...
